Kate Middleton and Prince William to become Barbie dolls

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge dolls will be dressed in outfits that mimic the couple's wedding.

Now even paupers will have the chance to play with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. That is, if they're willing to fork over $100. Mattel is marking the one-year anniversary of Prince William's marriage to Kate Middleton with a $100 Barbie doll set inspired by the royal couple.

The dolls will be part of a special Barbie Collector series, Reuters reported, and will be dressed in outfits that look like what the real couple wore on their wedding day at Westminster Abbey.

Mattel isn't the first company to sell dolls inspired by the 2011 British Royal Wedding. Last year, Hamleys toy shop released its own, perhaps less attractive Kate and William dolls.

"Despite nearly four months in production the two replica toys fail to hit the lookalike mark, looking more like puppets from the Sixties hit TV show Thunderbirds," the Daily Mail wrote of the Hamleys dolls. "With abnormally large heads, jutting jawlines and bronzed complexions the two characters would be hard to distinguish if it wasn't for the all too familiar wedding outfits."
