A blue Volkswagen Golf once owned by Kate Middleton is being auctioned on eBay by its current owner, Sonny Brazil.
The car was often seen in paparazzi shots of Middleton when she was dating Prince William, according to Fox News, and the future Queen of England reportedly used it while studying with the prince at St. Andrews University, Scotland.
Middleton owned an Audi A3 hatchback at the time of her wedding to William, who incidentally drives a high performance S4 Audi sedan, Fox reports. Prince Charles loaned the pair his wine-powered Seychelles Blue DB6 MKII Volante — one of only 38 such Aston Martins built, and a present from Queen Elizabeth to her eldest son on his 21st birthday.
Meanwhile, Brazil said Middleton's two-door VW had about 60,000 miles on it when sold by her brother, James, to Brazil's father, a used car dealer, for about $2,250. Middleton — now the Duchess of Cambridge — bought it in 2001 for about $17,000.
After visiting an auction house and learning that the car could be worth as much as $45,400, Brazil decided to take good care of it and has only added about 2,500 miles to the odometer, he reportedly said.
Brazil said he listed the car with a minimum 20,000 pound bid (about $32,200), but with four days left in the auction seven bidders had pushed the price up to around $40,000, short of its undisclosed reserve, Fox reports.
That was after a slow start — two days after going up for auction the car had not attracted a single bid, the Daily Mail reported on July 18.
Brazil found a pair of sterling silver cufflinks in the car after he purchased it, which is believed to belong to either Prince William or Kate’s brother James, but had decided to give them back to the Middleton family in case they have sentimental value, according to the Daily Mail.
