MC Hammer involved in new search engine

GlobalPost

MC Hammer announced a new search engine called WireDoo on Wednesday, TechCrunch reports. Yes, that MC Hammer.

Hammer made the announcement on stage at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, "an exclusive annual event that connects the business leaders, big thinkers, and innovative technologists who are shaping the future of the Web."

"Why create another search engine?” Hammer asked his audience rhetorically, according to TechCrunch. “Well, what if Sergei and Larry [Sergei Brin and Larry Page founded Google] had not tried?"

According to Mashable, WireDoo is focused on “deep search” and relational topics:

Hammer explained a search for a car is not just about the car, but about the model, the mileage, the specs and even the zipcode (you likely want to buy from a local dealer). A search for a home is related to the surrounding community, schools, neighborhood condition and other related concerns.

“It’s about relationships beyond just the keywords,” Hammer said on stage.

Hammer said that WireDoo's tagline is “Search once and see what’s related.”

Apparently, Hammer has been at this for a while. In 2009, Popular Mechanics ran a feature titled "10 Questions for New Social Networking Mogul M.C. Hammer," when the rapper was involved in DanceJam, "a sort of Facebook for dancers."

WireDoo is currently in pre-beta. But you can currently sign-up to test-drive the search engine once it makes it to beta.
