GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Three men wearing Batman masks robbed two cinemas in northern Mexico during screenings of “The Dark Knight Rises,” Agence France-Presse reported.
The incidents happened early Monday in Chihuahua, the capital of the border state with the same name, during midnight screenings of the latest Batman film.
The armed robbers stole nearly $16,000, El Universal reported.
AFP said the manager of a Cinemax theatre – one of the two cinemas hit – was injured during the attack.
Police are still looking for the assailants.
On Friday, more than 800 moviegoers were evacuated from a theatre in Mexico’s second largest city of Guadalajara during the premiere of the final installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy after a fire started in a dumpster.
No one was reported injured, but clearly moviegoers’ nerves were frayed by the incident.
The Associated Press said authorities have ramped up security for the screenings of the Batman movie after a gunman opened fire in a theatre in Colorado on July 20, killing 12 moviegoers and injuring at least 58.
It was the deadliest shooting in Colorado since the Columbine High School massacre in 1999 and worst mass shooting in the United States in several years.
