Red cars attract the most bird droppings, survey shows

GlobalPost

The next time someone with a fancy red convertible races ahead of your ugly green car and then cuts you off in traffic, remember this comforting information: your car is less likely to be covered in bird poop.

A new survey conducted by Halfords looked at 1,140 cars in five cities across the UK in two days. The researchers found that red cars were ahead of the pack when it comes to bird droppings. Eighteen percent of the red cars researchers looked at were marked by bird droppings. Black cars came in second, at 14 percent. Green cars were the least likely to be hit: just 1 percent of the green cars the researchers looked at had any bird poop on them.

Halfords says that bird droppings pose a major problem for drivers."The problem annoys drivers, causes damaged paint-work and affects the value of vehicles," a spokesman told Metro

Its important to note, however, that the survey was conducted by a company that sells car parts. Scientists who actually study birds are slightly suspicious of the findings. “We do know that birds can be attracted to certain colors during display but droppings on cars is probably more to do with where you park; if you park where birds roost, then you are going to get more droppings on your vehicle," a spokesman from The British Trust for Ornithology told IOL Motoring
