Same name couple - Kelly and Kelly Hildebrandt - file for divorce

GlobalPost

Magic was in the air when Kelly Hildebrandt met Kelly Hildebrandt back in 2009.

The two, who share both a first and last name, met on Facebook and married less than a year later.

But the fairytale did not last and Kelly and Kelly have filed for divorce, reports NBC 6.

“How do they term it at the courthouse? Irreconcilable differences, that is what I would say,” the male Kelly, Kelly Carl Hildebrandt, told NBC 6. “We gave it our best shot.”

Besides sharing a name, it seems the two did not have enough in common to make the marriage work.

“She’s a Florida girl, and I’m a Texas guy,” he said. “We really did come from pretty different worlds.”

According to NBC, male Kelly met with female Kelly a few days ago and there were “no hard feelings,” he said.

The Kellys first became well-known in 2009 after NBC 6 featured the same-name couple on a news segment.

Since then, they've been on the "Today Show," “Inside Edition,” Fox News, the front page of Yahoo.com, and People Magazine.

The two Kellys met after female Kelly saw the male Kelly's Facebook page, reports the Daily Mail.

She sent him a message because of the "cool" coincidence, not realizing she was writing to her future husband.

They exchanged messages and talked on the phone before male Kelly flew to South Florida to meet 20-year-old female Kelly.

The two were engaged just a few months later when male Kelly, then 24, hid a diamond engagement ring in a treasure box on the beach, according to the Daily Mail.

"He is just everything that I've ever looked for," the female Kelly said of her then-fiancé at the time. "There have always been certain qualities that a guy has to have. And he has all the ones I could think of - and more."

Kelly and Kelly wed in October 2009 but the marriage crumbled earlier this year. Male Kelly told NBC that he's since returned to his hometown of Lubbock, Texas.

In case there are other single Kelly Hildebrandts out there - male Kelly isn't interested.

He told NBC that he would be reluctant to marry anyone with the same name again to avoid the media spotlight.

“I wouldn’t want my future spouse to have to deal with everything from before,” he said. “That wouldn’t be a fair situation, given the media coverage.”

The former Mrs. Kelly Hildebrandt did not comment publicly but her mother told NBC 6, "Yes, I am sorry to say they have separated. I am happy to say they have remained good friends and are both doing well."
