Ann Romney’s dressage horse will be competing in the London Olympics this summer.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Rafalca, the 15-year-old Oldenburg mare co-owned by Romney, won a spot on the Olympic dressage team, along with trainer Jan Ebeling. Rafalca won the spot after placing third in the U.S. Equestrian Federation National Dressage Championships in Gladstone, N.J.

The horse will be competing in the dressage event where horses and riders are scored on a sequence of precise movements.

Romney has credited dressage with relieving many of the symptoms she suffered after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, according to the Wall Street Journal.

According to MSNBC, Mitt Romney recently joked, “I'm going to send her to Betty Ford for addiction to horses."

After she learned her horse would make it to London, Romney Tweeted: “It’s great to be part of the Olympics again. We are so proud of Jan and Team USA. Now let’s bring home the gold!”

The LA Times noted that Romney's involvement in dressage has raised the profile of a sport often thought of as a sport of the elite.

With the Romney family history with pets and financial status, it was easy pickings for late-night comedians.

Recently Stephen Colbert joked, "“The Romney’s horse might go to the Olympics! Though one would imagine it’s going to be a long drive to London on top of their station wagon.”
