Matt Barnes, a free-agent basketball player who spent the last two seasons as a forward for the Los Angeles Lakers, was arrested this week, ESPN reported. Barnes, the Lakers' top-scoring reserve this past season, was arrested late Monday for failing to show up in court over an unpaid traffic ticket. The arresting officer also decided to charge him with resisting arrest.

Barnes was released after posting a $51,000 bond around 11:20 p.m., CBS Los Angeles reported

But in a new report, TMZ claims that the original story given by police doesn't add-up. According to TMZ, anonymous sources said that a police officer spied on Barnes in a restaurant for two hours, and waited to arrest him as he was signing autographs near his car. Sources told TMZ that the police officer never explained to Barnes why he was under arrest, and that he never got violent against the officer.

"It's unclear why the officer chose to wait 2 hours before busting Barnes," TMZ said.
