Paramedics in Toronto suffered a fright when they were called to the set of a move, starring Milla Jovovich, after several actors were injured when falling from a platform.

They arrived to a scene of blood and gore: the actors on the set of Resident Evil: Retribution were dressed as zombies.

Toronto emergency medical services Commander David Ralph told the Associated Press:

I could see the look on the first paramedic, saying “Oh my God”.

Police Sergeant Andrew Gibson admitted that “it did kind of catch us off-guard when we walked in”.

CBC News reported that emergency crews had struggled to identify which injuries were real, and which were make-up.

Twelve actors were taken to hospital with injuries ranging from bruising to a cracked rib and a broken leg.

The Canadian Press said the accident took place at Cinespace Film Studios, where the fifth installment of the film is shooting.

Constable Tony Vella said the incident occurred when the performers were moving between two platforms:

One platform had wheels, and they were moving over to another platform. As soon they were moving over, the wheels moved, causing them to fall.

It is not known if Jovovich was on the set when the incident happened.
