Plight of Zimbabwean refugees still dire

Neither Zimbabwe's new power-sharing government nor South Africa's new president Jacob Zuma has lessened the misery of the estimated three million Zimbabweans who have fled Zimbabwe for South Africa, according to "No Refuge," a report issued today by Doctors Without Borders (the American wing of the French group Medecins Sans Frontieres).

The Zimbabweans fleeing their country for South Africa are subjected to rape, violence, hunger and child prostitution, states the report, yet the flood of refugees keeps coming. The comprehensive report includes a moving video and photographs.

Doctors Without Borders set up emergency medical facilities in Zimbabwe that helped to bring the cholera epidemic under control, but not before the disease had killed more than 4,000 people. Now the group is setting up facilities to try to cope with the emergencies of those who flee Zimbabwe.
