Movie of the summer: District 9

Extraterrestial beings land in Johannesburg. A million of the creatures — part insect, part robot — are cordoned off in a township called District 9. Angry South Africans want to get rid of the aliens. Tensions and fear grow. Violence looms. Apartheid meets science fiction.

District 9. It's the new movie produced by Peter Jackson, who masterminded and directed "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. This time he has given his backing to South African director Neill Blomkamp who has made the provocative film on a tight budget and with lots of imagination. The movie is generating amazing buzz. Entertainment Weekly says it is a science fiction film "with surprising moral intelligence."
