In April, I reported on company takeovers by workers' cooperatives. I'll be the first to say that those terms, and the images they conjure of Marx-esque proletarian uprisings and appropriation of the means of production, ring a pretty heavy bell.
After I filed the dispatch, I blogged about the Bauen Hotel's restaurant as a surprising example that worker takeovers aren't all dreary, and how socialistic food doesn't always taste bland.
Not to belabor the point, but I couldn't resist watching and telling you about another impressive instance: a workers' fashion show at the Bauen Hotel this weekend. Many of the runway models were local workers or their family members, and all the styles were produced by their cooperatively-owned factories—and not only was it not dreary, it was fun. Even, dare I say, kinda hot. Take a peek.
