The "Strategic and Economic Dialogue" is a pretty boring and bureaucratic way to describe the world's most important bilateral relationship.

But, there you go, and it kicked off today in Washington, D.C.: two days of high-level talks between the United States and China on the global economy, currency issues, climate change, green energy, North Korea, nuclear non-proliferation, terrorism, human rights (maybe), and a host of other hot topics.

In opening remarks today, President Obama took a measured but conciliatory tone towards his Chinese guests:

“All of these issues are rooted in the fact that no one nation can meet the challenges of the 21st century on its own. It is this fundamental truth that compels us to cooperate.”

Will they? Stay tuned.
