Pancakes with the first lady
The first lady's motorcade, flanked by Secret Service agents and police, arrived in a flurry early Friday morning to the neighborhood of Millvale, an old mill town on the banks of the Allegheny River. She sat a table with a half dozen staffers at Pamela's P&G Diner.
She knows these pancakes well because she and the president invited the owners to cook for them at the White House kitchen on Memorial Day. Pamela's is famous for its chocolate chip and banana, crepe-thin pancakes.
I actually had a minute to talk with the first lady. Not about the G20 or health care, but the menu. I recommended the chocolate and banana house specialty, but she was very decisive about going for the traditional plain flapjacks. A sound choice. I snapped a photo and then the Secret Service informed me that it was wise to move on.
