Iran: The view from Ahvaz
While there are unprecedented protests in the streets of Tehran, there is unrest in some other major cities in Iran, too.
Ahvaz is the capital of Khuestan province, in southwest Iran, near the border with Iraq (see map).
Ahvaz resident Ardalan Khaki (not his real name), when reached on the phone says that the city is divided. He says there are parts where there is relative peace, but in the downtown area people are setting fire to trash cans.
“They have cheated” says Khaki, “our votes are stolen.”
Khaki says that he and his family are “isolated” because they are staying inside home for their safety.
