Taliban militants released Greek NGO worker Thanassis Lerounis eight months after kidnapping him in the Chitral region in northern Pakistan near the border with Afghanistan, a Pakistani official announced on Thursday.
Lerounis, chairman of the Greek Volunteers, was kidnapped in the remote Kalash valley in September, 2009. His guard was fatally shot. Lerounis had been working on a cultural project with the Kalasha people in the area since 2001.
