Seven years of junk awaits the troops of the 15th Sustainment Brigade at Contingency Operating Base Q-West, south of Mosul, in northern Iraq. The base's units are clearing out their storage bins as the military prepares to close U.S. military operations on the base, and hand the keys over to the Iraqi government.

Q-West has its own water-making facility, but it will be shut down as the base closes. In anticipation, the logistics troops are overproducing water and stockpiling it in order to keep U.S. troops hydrated until they leave.

Now, units are going through the containers to see what can be kept and what can be given to the Iraqis or thrown away. The containers will then be used to transport the equipment out of Iraq and possibly to the US or Afghanistan.
