Wimbledon, the world's oldest tennis tournament, saw fans — including American actors and British royalty — brave the rain to watch Day nine of the tournament.
Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic safely made it into the quarterfinals, while Mikhail Youzhny managed to slipped in a victory over Denis Istomin, even as the roof closed over the players to shelter them from the rainy forecast, the Montreal Gazette reported.
As for the women, No. 1 seed Maria Sharapova was beat by Sabine Lisicki, Serena Williams ended defending champ Petra Kvitova's winning streak, and Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond of the USA beat Russia in the women's doubles, according to Wimbledon's scores website.
A total of 13 matches have been played under the Court's retractable roof so far, USA Today reported...but if you're looking for something else to do on Wimbledon's rainy days, The Independent has some suggestions.
