The floods that swept through the Krymsk district claimed at least 172 lives as of Tuesday, and the government now faces accusations that it did not issue warnings fast enough, according to The New York Times.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday, "We must help these families, help all the people who are in very difficult circumstances and have lost almost all their belongings," reported Reuters.
