The Els Enfarinats festival in the Spanish town of Ibi involves a massive food fight with flour, eggs and... firecrackers.
Every year, the residents of Ibi, in eastern Spain, celebrate this winter festival. A group of married men, called the Els Enfarinats, face off against the opposition, called La Oposicio, armed with eggs and flour.
According to The Los Angeles Times, the Els Enfarinats enact ridiculous laws and fine people who infringe upon them. The money collected from the fines is donated to charitable causes in the town by the end of the day.
The festival was revived in 1981, but it dates back 200 years and its origins remain unknown.
