Dominican Republic vote: 'Market-friendly' Medina wins

Danilo Medina is favored among foreign investors, analysts say. But can he convince skeptical Dominicans?

Danilo Medina, a 60-year-old economist who’s also trained in chemistry, appeared on Monday to have handily won the Dominican Republic’s presidential election. Yet some are questioning what kind of weird science the ruling party concocted to win so many votes.

Carlina Durán: Miss Dominican Republic dethroned for being married

Carlina Durán, a 25-year-old model, had to hand over her Miss Dominican Republic crown after officials found out she violated pageant rules by hiding her marriage from organizers.

Carlina Durán, a 25-year-old model, had to hand over her Miss Dominican Republic crown after officials found out she violated pageant rules by hiding her marriage.

According to CNN, organizers of the pageant said Durán married in 2009 but told contest organizers she was single. They also said contestants in the pageant cannot be married or divorced.
