In an open letter to President Obama today, a number of rights organizations expressed their concern with the continuing human rights situation in Turkey, specifically calling on the administration to take a stronger hand with Prime Minister Erdogan.

In Latin America, man bites watchdog

LIMA, Peru — The Inter-American human rights system is coming under pressure from Latin American governments angry at what they regard as meddling in their internal affairs. The attacks have been led by Venezuela President Hugo Chavez and his Ecuadorean and Bolivian counterparts, Rafael Correa and Evo Morales, the three leading members of Chavez’s leftist “Bolivarian” alliance of the Americas known as ALBA.
