After eight months of fighting Libya's rebels took Sirte, Muammar Gaddafi's hometown. Defiant until the end, Libya's leader was found in a drainpipe where he was captured, beaten and taken away in the back of a pickup truck. The dictator who had been at the center of world affairs for decades later died of gunshot wounds to his head and chest. GlobalPost obtained exclusive video of Gaddafi's capture and provided continuous breaking news coverage and analysis of this historic, and troubling, news event.
Initally, the NTC said that Gaddafi was killed in crossfire. However, mobile phone video quickly emerged showing the moment after Gaddafi was pulled from a drain pipe where he had hidden. The videos show Gaddafi, alive, being beaten by NTC forces or rebels.
Muammar Gaddafi's son, Saif al-Islam, has been in contact with International Criminal Court prosecutors about a possible surrender, the ICC said Friday. Saif al-Islam is wanted for alleged war crimes in Libya.
