Manchester City and Yankees launch new MLS team

By Simon Evans MIAMI (Reuters) - The New York Yankees and Premier League club Manchester City have formed a Major League Soccer (MLS) team to play in New York City from 2015, aiming to win over America's largest sports market to the global game. City, owned by Sheikh Mansour of Abu Dhabi, will be the majority partner in New York City Football Club with the biggest name in baseball, the Yankees, as a minority partner active in running the team. The ownership group will pay a $100 million franchise fee.

Jose Mourinho looks set to be welcomed back to Chelsea with open arms, but his reputation has been sullied during his three-year stint at Real Madrid and he will return to Stamford Bridge with several thorny issues to address. SEOUL, May 21 (Yonhap) -- FC Seoul advanced to the quarterfinals at the AFC Champions League with a 3-1 win over Beijing Guoan on Tuesday. In the second leg of the round of 16 at Seoul World Cup Stadium, FC Seoul scored three unanswered goals in the second-half against the Chinese Super League club to secure a berth in the final eight at the premier club competition in Asia. This is the third trip to the AFC Champions League quarters for the K League Classic team.

Atletico Madrid holds clinic for kids in Singapore

International Sports Desk, May 21 (EFE).- Atletico Madrid completed its first practic session Tuesday after taking the Copa del Rey last week and held a clinic for 118 children during its second day in Singapore. The Spanish team will play a charity match Wednesday against a local team at Jalan Besar Stadium. Atletico Madrid won its 10th Copa del Rey championship in the Spanish capital last Friday with a 2-1 upset victory in extra time over Real Madrid. Coach Diego Simeone put the 22 players who traveled to Singapore through a practice session Tuesday morning.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed on Tuesday that he would be willing to discuss a deal with Manchester City that would see strikers Edin Dzeko and Edinson Cavani move in opposite directions. Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp says he is heartbroken to see his former star player Shinji Kagawa playing only a peripheral role at Manchester United. Borussia Dortmund's path from the brink of bankruptcy in 2005 to Saturday's Champions League final against Bayern Munich has been dubbed "Ground Zero to Wembley" by CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke. Last November, he announced that Dortmund had posted a record net profit of 34.3 million euros ($44.5 million) for the 2011-12 season, when they won the league and cup double.
