Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby" was to open the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday, with critics divided on whether it amounts to an inspired take on F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic or a cinematic flop. A host of stars including Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling, Michael Douglas, Carey Mulligan and Matt Damon are expected on the red carpet during the glitzy 12-day festival on the French Riviera. Steven Spielberg will also bring his star power to Cannes as head of the jury which also includes includes Nicole Kidman and Ang Lee.

Australian actress Nicole Kidman will appear as the new face of luxury shoe and accessories brand Jimmy Choo from this autumn.  A member of the prestigious jury at this year's Cannes film festival, Nicole Kidman has just finished another exciting project: starring in the latest campaign for Jimmy Choo.  With the images currently top secret, and set to drop in August's crop of fashion magazines including Harpers Bazaar, Vogue and Vanity Fair, Nicole Kidman was shot by Swedish fashion photographer Mikael Jansson.

Stars come out on eve of Cannes opening

Cannes on Tuesday rolled out the red carpet for filmmaker Steven Spielberg, head of this year's film festival jury, with the legendary moviemaker due to dine with his fellow judges on the eve of the 12-day Riviera movie fest. Spielberg was to meet jury members including Nicole Kidman, Ang Lee and Christoph Waltz at a two Michelin star restaurant for a meal prepared by top chef Christian Sinicropi. Audrey Tautou, the host of Wednesday's opening ceremony, took part in her first photo call, looking demure in a yellow floral-patterned summer dress.

Trailer for J.J. Abrams’ 'Almost Human' sci-fi series makes a virtual splash

The upcoming sci-fi drama "Almost Human," to be aired on Fox at the start of 2014, is unveiled in a teaser trailer that's causing a sensation on the web. After "Fringe," the previous science-fiction series helmed by J.J. Abrams, wound down in January, loyal Fox viewers will find consolation in "Almost Human," a futuristic drama in which LAPD officers are partnered with humanoids. The mastermind of "Lost" is teaming up again with J.H. Wyman, the showrunner, writer and producer of "Fringe," to mount this new series, which Fox is reserving for mid-season.
