European stocks gain, euro jumps on Italy bond auction

Europe's main stock markets rose on Thursday and the euro rallied above $1.31, as traders seized on news of a successful Italy bond auction and a strong drop in new US unemployment claims. London's FTSE 100 index of leading companies rose 0.45 percent to close at 6,416.14 points, while in Frankfurt the DAX 30 climbed 0.78 percent to 7,871.63 points and in Paris the CAC 40 added 0.85 percent to 3,775.66 points. Milan's FTSE Mib index meanwhile advanced 0.58 percent to 16,021 points, and Madrid's IBEX 35 gained 0.25 percent to 8,159.5 points.

Europe's main stock markets rose on Thursday and the euro rallied above $1.31, as traders seized on news of a successful Italy bond auction and a strong drop in new US unemployment claims. London's FTSE 100 index of top companies increased 0.30 percent to 6,406.34 points, Frankfurt's DAX 30 added 0.36 percent to 7,838.46 points and in Paris the CAC 40 won 0.52 percent to reach 3,763.21 points. Milan's FTSE Mib index meanwhile advanced 0.31 percent to 15,978.18 points, but Madrid's IBEX 35 was down 0.2 percent to 8,119.9 points.

Shares extend gains on optimism

The stock market opened today's trading on a positive note with shares on both exchanges climbing on investors' optimism.The VN-Index on the HCM City Stock Exchange surpassed the psychological resistance landmark of 505 points, closing this morning's session up 0.62 per cent at 505.70 points.Trading was busier towards the end of the morning with a total of nearly 34.2 million shares, worth VND616.4 billion (US$ 29.4 million), changing hands.Blue chips continued to support the market when many of the top 30 shares by market capitalisation and liquidity like Bao Viet Hol

Shanghai stock indices close higher -- April 9

China's benchmark Shanghai Composite Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange closed at 2,225.78 points on Tuesday, up 14.18 points, or 0.64 percent, from the previous close. A Share Index: 2,329.55 points, up 14.82 points, or 0.64 percent; B Share Index: 262.98 points, up 2.19 points, or 0.84 percent; Total Turnover: 73.14 billion yuan (11.68 billion U.S. dollars).

Hong Kong stocks close 0.30% higher

Hong Kong stocks rose 0.30 percent on Thursday, a third straight gain, as dealers followed another record-breaking performance on Wall Street. In Hong Kong the benchmark Hang Seng Index climbed 66.71 points to end at 22,101.27 on turnover of HK$57.97 billion ($7.48 billion). Traders were given a lead from a Wall Street rally fuelled by minutes from the most recent Federal Reserve policy meeting reasserting a commitment to keep easy-money policies in place until the jobs market picks up.

London's FTSE 100 index of leading companies gained 1.17 percent to finish at 6,387.37 points, while in Frankfurt the DAX 30 jumped 2.27 percent to 7,810.63 points, and in Paris the CAC 40 rose 1.99 percent to 3,743.71 points. In Milan the FTSE-Mib soared 3.19 percent to 15,929 points and Madrid's IBEX 35 rose 3.35 percent to 8136.4 points.

European equities rise as Dow advances further

Europe's main stock markets made strong gains Wednesday, boosted by a strong Wall Street opening as the Dow continues its push into record territory. In afternoon trade, London's FTSE 100 index of top companies increased 1.11 percent to 6,383.45 points, Frankfurt's DAX 30 jumped 1.67 percent to 7,764.89 points and in Paris the CAC 40 leapt 1.63 percent to 3,730.81 points. In Madrid, the Ibex 35 index shot up 3.31 percent to 8,132.90 points.

European equities diverge on data

European stock markets ended mixed on Tuesday, with London gaining on data showing Britain may escape a triple-dip recession while Frankfurt retreated on disappointing trade data. London's FTSE 100 index of leading companies ended the day with a gain of 0.58 percent to 6,313.21 points, Paris' CAC40 edged out an 0.11 percent rise to 3,670.72 points in choppy trade, while in Frankfurt the DAX 30 dropped 0.33 percent to 7,637.51 points.

Hope for Viet growth boosts shares

The VN-Index surged over 500 points last week, reaching 502.58 points on Friday and increasing 2.35 per cent over the previous week. Meanwhile, the HNX-Index also rose 1.24 per cent to 61 points.
