Cricket: Kiwi skipper McCullum ponders spin dilemma

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum admits he will wait until the last minute before deciding if spinner Bruce Martin or seamer Doug Bracewell will fill the final place in his bowling attack for the first Test against England. McCullum's side open their two-match Test series against England at Lord's on Thursday and the skipper's only selection dilemma is whether to go with an all-seam attack to take advantage of the expected overcast conditions in north London.

Cricket: New Zealand duo get early IPL release for England

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum and key batsman Ross Taylor are set for an earlier than anticipated arrival in England after being granted early release by their Indian Premier League sides. The pair were not expected to arrive on the tour of England until after the completion of this weekend's inaugural three-day warm-up match against Derbyshire. But McCullum and Taylor will now have more time to get used to English conditions before the two-match Test series gets underway at Lord's later this month.

The touring Test squad sees recalls for Martin Guptill and Mark Gillespie, who are added to the list of players who featured in the squads for the recent drawn three-Test home series against England.

Cricket: Taylor not happy in N. Zealand set-up

Ex-New Zealand skipper Ross Taylor, replaced as captain late last year, admitted Wednesday he was not entirely comfortable in the team following a dramatic Test series draw against England. Taylor also indicated there was more to the way he lost the captaincy to Brendon McCullum than has been revealed. "I wouldn't say I'm as comfortable as I would like to be but I guess time will tell," Taylor told Radio Sport when questioned about the atmosphere inside the New Zealand dressing room.

Pride but no redemption for gallant New Zealand

By Greg Stutchbury AUCKLAND (Reuters) - Redemption was not a word New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum would bother to countenance after his side were denied a test series victory against England after the final match on Tuesday. McCullum's team had come into the series ranked eighth in the world after a humiliating series loss in South Africa marked by a first innings dismissal for 45 runs in the opening test.

By Greg Stutchbury AUCKLAND (Reuters) - New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum shrugged his shoulders and tutted slightly as he sat down to face the media after the final day of the test series against England on Tuesday. McCullum's under-rated side had come within one wicket of upsetting the world's second-ranked test team to claim the series 1-0 after the first two matches in Dunedin and Wellington ended in rain-affected draws.

Cricket: Two-ton Fulton rises from New Zealand scrapheap

Black Caps opener Peter Fulton celebrated his recall from the cricket scrapheap on Monday by becoming only the fourth New Zealander to score back-to-back centuries in a Test. At stumps on Monday, with one day to play, England were fighting for survival at 90 for four with a target of 481 to win.

By Greg Stutchbury AUCKLAND (Reuters) - Peter Fulton opened his shoulders and effortlessly picked up a full Stuart Broad delivery and slammed the ball into the northern stand at Eden Park for the fifth six of his innings. The short-arm punch of the bat was followed with an understated fist pump, a wander down the pitch to shake hands with captain Brendon McCullum and another matter-of-fact waving of the bat to the crowd.
