Cricket: England into Champions Trophy semi-finals

England put a ball-tampering row behind them to book their place in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy with a 10-run win over New Zealand in Cardiff on Sunday. New Zealand, chasing 170 for victory in a match reduced by rain to 24 overs per side, were held by the tournament hosts to 159 for eight. Victory saw England, yet to win a major 50-over tournament, into the last four as one of two qualifiers out of Group A after their build-up for this match was overshadowed by ball-tampering allegations made against them by former captain Bob Willis.

Cricket: New Zealand restrict England to 169

New Zealand dismissed England for 169 in a key Champions Trophy match in Cardiff on Sunday reduced by rain to 24 overs per side. Whichever team wins this Group A clash will qualify for the semi-finals, with defeat for England guaranteeing the hosts' exit from a tournament for the world's top eight one-day international sides. New Zealand would have had a smaller total to chase had not Nathan McCullum dropped Alastair Cook, who top-scored with 64, three times before clinging on to a chance off his own bowling to end the England captain's 47-ball innings.

Cricket: McCullum backs Ronchi to come good

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum believes it's only a matter of time before Luke Ronchi "tears a team apart" with the bat after a run of low scores since making his Black Caps debut. Although born in New Zealand, Ronchi played international cricket for Australia, where he grew up, in four one-dayers and three Twenty20s from 2008 to 2009. However, he subsequently returned home and made his New Zealand debut in the first one-day international against England at Lord's last month.

Cricket: McCullum wants ODI relief against England

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum hopes a change of format and the introduction of several new players will revive his side from the depths of a Test whitewash when they face England in a three-match one-day series starting at Lord's on Friday. For both teams, this series will serve as a warm-up for next month's ICC Champions Trophy tournament in England and Wales. McCullum would also like it to act as a pick-me-up for a squad that suffered a 247-run hammering by England in the second and final Test at Headingley on Tuesday.

Cricket: Australia win toss, bat against New Zealand

Australia captain George Bailey won the toss and elected to bat against New Zealand in their Champions Trophy Group A match at Edgbaston on Wednesday. Defending champions Australia made two changes from the side that lost to England by 48 runs in their tournament opener at Edgbaston on Saturday. Opening batsman David Warner was left out as a disciplinary measure following allegations he'd physically assaulted an as yet unnamed England player, reported by the BBC and other media as Joe Root, after Saturday's loss. His place was taken by Glenn Maxwell.

Cricket: New Zealand win excites McCullum

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum looked forward to next month's Champions Trophy in the UK with confidence after a five-wicket win in the first one-day international against England at Lord's on Friday. The Black Caps were whitewashed 2-0 by England in the preceding Test series, suffering several batting collapses including a slump to 68 all out just a few weeks ago in a 170-run first Test defeat at Lord's.
