Japan's foreign reserves in Nov. down for first time in 5 months
TOKYO, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Japan's foreign exchange reserves decreased 1.4 billion U.S. dollars from a month earlier to 1,275. 35 billion dollars at the end of November, down for the first time in five months, the Finance Ministry said Friday.
According to a ministry official, the reserves' downswing was due to a rise in long-term interest rates in the United States and Europe, which led to lower values of Japanese government-held bonds such as U.S. Treasuries.
