Many small business owners would like to export, but don't know much about selling overseas, or where to get help. Lack of knowledge is the biggest barrier to exporting, according to a survey by two trade groups, the National Small Business Association and the Small Business Exporters Association. U.S. puts Russia on notice in first report on WTO compliance

By Doug Palmer WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States, in the first report on Russia's compliance with its World Trade Organization commitments, said on Wednesday it was closely watching Moscow for any violations that thwart U.S. exports to the world's sixth-largest economy. But in the report required by Congress, the U.S. Trade Representative's Office did not announce any definite plans for litigation at the Geneva-based world trade body.

Export revival underway as small businesses look overseas for sales after the recession

NEW YORK, N.Y. - When Lawrence Scheer began selling baby clothes in 2010, he didn't realize it then, but he was on the leading edge of a recovery in small business exports. Scheer's company, Magnificent Baby, manufactures its products in China and then sells them in about 20 countries around the world. "Our goal from the beginning was to sell as much clothes as possible — so when international interest was there, we pursued it," says Scheer, whose business is based in New York.

Spanish economy gets boost from drop in in trade deficit

Spain's trade deficit was halved in April as exports soared, especially to China and other fast-growing emerging markets, the government said Wednesday, a rare glimmer of good news for a nation struggling in a double-dip recession. Spain, with the eurozone's fourth-biggest economy, posted a deficit of 1.642 billion euros ($2.196 billion) in April compared to a deficit of 3.355 billion euros, the Economy Ministry said. Exports jumped 18.6 percent from a year earlier to 20.398 billion euros while imports rose 7.2 percent to 22.04 billion euros.

Lawmakers, businesses demand Indian trade reforms

China, EU to hold talks on solar dispute

China said Tuesday it will this week hold talks with the European Union in a bid to resolve a dispute over solar panels and other business issues, as tensions between the two risk escalating into a trade war. The two sides have "tentatively decided" to hold the annual ministerial-level meeting of the joint economic and trade commission on Friday in Beijing, said Shen Danyang, spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce.

EU takes China to WTO over steel anti-dumping duties

The European Union said Thursday it was taking China, one of its biggest trade partners, to the World Trade Organization over Chinese tariffs on imported EU stainless steel pipes. The EU "today requested consultations with China" at the WTO, a statement said, noting that Japan -- whose own ties with Beijing are strained -- had filed a similar complaint earlier this year. bmm/ccr/rl
