IMF board to discuss Greece on May 31, mission heading to Athens

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The International Monetary Fund will send a team to Greece early next month for talks with Greek authorities and the IMF's bailout partners, following a meeting of the IMF executive board to discuss a review of Greece's program, the IMF said on Thursday. The IMF has joined Greece's euro zone partners in providing billions of euros in bailout aid to help the nation avoid crashing out of the common currency bloc. Disbursement of the money is dependent on Greece meeting strict conditions.

Thailand calls for ASEAN ministers' meeting in August

Thailand proposed Thursday that Southeast Asian ministers meet sometime in August to firm up its position on the protracted South China Sea disputes before meeting with China in Beijing in September, ASEAN diplomats said. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Thailand's permanent secretary of the Foreign Ministry, told Kyodo News he circulated the proposal during the ASEAN senior officials meeting in the Brunei capital.

BEIJING, May 23 (Yonhap) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's special envoy met with another top Chinese party official Thursday, the second day of his scheduled three-day trip here seen as aimed at mending frayed ties between the two countries. Vice Marshall Choe Ryong-hae, director of the General Political Bureau of North Korea's People's Army, flew to Beijing on Wednesday. Shortly after his arrival, he had met with Wang Jiarui, the head of the central committee's external affairs of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Choe Ryong-hae, the director of the General Political Bureau of the Korean People's Army, flew into Beijing Wednesday as an envoy to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. He met with Wang Jiarui, the head of the Communist Party of China's (CPC) central committee's external affairs department, shortly after his arrival.
