Tajik president fears instability after NATO Afghan pullout

By Barbara Lewis and Adrian Croft BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Tajikistan is deeply concerned about instability after foreign troops withdraw from neighbouring Afghanistan, Tajik President Imomali Rakhmon said on Thursday. Afghanistan is to hold presidential elections in April 2014 as most foreign combat troops will be preparing to withdraw from the country by the end of that year, leaving Afghan security forces in charge.

Remittances inflow up by 6.35pc to $10.35b in 9 months

Overseas Pakistani workers remitted an amount of $10,353.92 million in the first nine months (July-March) of the current fiscal year 2012-13 (FY13), showing a growth of 6.35 percent or $617.95 million when compared with $9,735.97 million received during the same period of last fiscal year (July-March FY12).The inflow of remittances in July- March FY13 from Saudi Arabia, UAE, USA, UK, GCC countries (including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman), and EU countries amounted to $2,979.31 million, $2,085.94 million, $1,636.66 million, $1,434.97 million, $1,195.86 million and $269.04 million

Pakistan warship to visit Port of Salalah on April 13

The Pakistan Navy ship Shahjahan will arrive at Port of Salalah (PoS) on April 13 on a five-day visit. The vessel will be welcomed by senior officials from Oman's military and civilian authorities, according to a statement from the Pakistani Embassy in Muscat.Formerly the Type-21 frigate HMS Active of the UK Royal Navy, the vessel was decommissioned in 1994 and sold to Pakistan where it was renamed PNS Shahjahan.Weighing around 3,200 tonnes, the vessel carries a variety of armaments, including missile and gun systems.

Defense Minister of Kazakhstan to visit Tajikistan

Kazakhstan's Defense Minister Adilbek Jaksybekov will discuss prospects of military and technical cooperation during his visit to Dushanbe on April 15, the Defense Ministry said.Jaksybekov intends to hold talks with Defense Minister of Tajikistan Sherali Hairulloev during this visit.A particular attention will be paid to training opportunities for the military of Tajikistan in military education institutions in Kazakhstan.

Kyrgyz Post seeks to restore ground exchange of postal items suspended by Kazakhstan

The Kyrgyz Post Office works on resumption of the ground exchange of postal items between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.The exchange was temporarily suspended since 20 February 2013 after the customs bodies of Kazakhstan unilaterally introduced additional procedures for transportation of goods by vehicles.The Kyrgyz Post Office had to change the route of international postal items previously going through Kazakhstan since March 6.
