VERNON, B.C. - There are fender benders, sideswipes and rear-end accidents, but RCMP in Vernon, B.C., are investigating their first-ever case of a car falling from the sky. RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk said Friday a road-worthy flying roadster, the creation of a Florida company, crashed near an elementary school just before 9 a.m. shortly after taking off from the Vernon airport.

Woods wins Players Championship by two

Passenger with grenade-shaped lighter disrupts Miami airport

MIAMI (Reuters) - Part of a busy concourse was evacuated at Miami International Airport on Thursday when a passenger tried to pass through a security checkpoint with a cigarette lighter shaped like a grenade, police and airport officials said. Security screeners saw the item shortly after 5 a.m. (10:00 a.m. British time) and called the Miami-Dade Police bomb squad, which determined that the business-card-sized lighter was not an explosive, Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said.

Father of Rep. Ros-Lehtinen dies

Miami, Apr 11 (EFE).- Cuban historian Enrique Ros died here this week of respiratory complications, his daughter, U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, said Thursday. He was 89. Ros died Wednesday at South Miami Hospital, the South Florida lawmaker said in a statement. "My dad was and will always be the wind beneath my wings," she said. Numerous political figures, journalists, entertainers and friends offered condolences to the Ros family, including former Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart, who said on Twitter: "I will miss Enrique Ros deeply."
