Del Bosque praises Casillas' handling of Real Madrid benching

Madrid, May 20 (EFE).- Spanish national team coach Vicente del Bosque had nothing but kind words Monday for goalkeeper Iker Casillas' response to losing his place in the starting lineup at Real Madrid. Casillas, who turned 32 Monday, is the long-time captain of the national squad. If Casillas had sought his advice after being relegated to the bench by Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho, Del Bosque said, "I would have told him to act as he has done: being obedient, disciplined and discreet."

Football: Rain kings Barca stay on course for 100 points

Barcelona celebrated lifting the La Liga trophy for a 22nd time with a 2-1 win over Valladolid on Sunday at a rain-lashed Camp Nou. The wet conditions resulted in the lowest attendance for a Barca home league match this season as only 56,055 filled the 99,354 capacity ground. However, first-half goals from Pedro Rodriguez and into his own net from Marc Valiente were enough to keep the champions on track to match Real Madrid's league record of 100 points before Victor Perez's penalty halved the deficit a minute from time.

This is the third time in history that Barça has won the title without having actually battled for it in a match.
