Football: Season a success overall, claims Vilanova

Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova believes his first season in charge has been a success overall after Barca clinched their fourth title in five seasons. The Catalans didn't even need to set foot on the pitch to seal the title on Saturday as Real Madrid's 1-1 draw with Espanyol meant Barca had already been crowned champions before their 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid on Sunday. And despite a 7-0 aggregate thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Vilanova insisted his side were somewhat unfortunate in Europe this season.

Football: Barca's 22nd title feels like anti-climax

Barcelona's fourth La Liga title in five seasons, and their 22nd in all, finally arrived on Saturday with somewhat of an anti-climax. The result that sealed the title did come in Barcelona, but thanks to city neighbours Espanyol as their 1-1 draw with Real Madrid left Los Blancos seven points adrift of Barca with just two games to play. However, given they had the league practically sewn up thanks to an 18-point lead over Real by the turn of the year, domestic success has somewhat been lost amongst the Champions League humiliation handed down by Bayern Munich.

Football: Barcelona win Spanish title for 22nd time

Barcelona's fourth La Liga title in five seasons -- and the 22nd of their history -- was confirmed on Saturday after Real Madrid could only manage a 1-1 draw with Espanyol. Espanyol took advantage of Jose Mourinho resting a host of first team players in the first half ahead of Real's Copa del Rey final with Atletico Madrid on Friday. And they deservedly went in front through Christian Stuani on 22 minutes.

Football: Ronaldo hits 200 as Real keep Barca waiting

Real Madrid forced Barcelona to delay their title celebrations as Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 200th Real goal in an entertaining 4-3 win over Valladolid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday. The result cut Barcelona's lead at the top to eight points and although they can't now mathematically seal the title with a win over Real Betis on Sunday, they can restore their 11-point lead with just four games remaining. And defender Pepe said afterwards it is important to keep going until the end of the season just in case Barca struggle to get across the line.
