Spain planning law to force collective TV bargaining

MADRID (Reuters) - A new Spanish sports law will include an obligation for football clubs to negotiate the sale of television rights collectively as in other major European leagues, secretary of state for sport Miguel Cardenal said on Thursday. The legislation, expected to be presented towards the end of this year, would do away with the practice of clubs signing deals with broadcasters individually, Cardenal said in an interview with radio station Cope.

Soccer-Real and Atletico to meet in Cup final at Bernabeu on May 17

MADRID, March 8 (Reuters) - The King's Cup final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid has been set for Friday May 17 and will take place at Real's Bernabeu stadium. The date and venue were agreed at a meeting between officials from the two clubs at the Spanish soccer federation headquarters outside the capital, the federation said in a statement on their website (www.rfef.es) on Friday. The match will kick off at 9.30 p.m. (2030 GMT).

Football: Madrid's Marcelo fined for driving offence

Real Madrid defender Marcelo has been fined 6,000 euros ($7,820, £5,179) for driving after his licence had been revoked. The Brazilian had been stopped by the police for committing a driving violation on February 18 when it was discovered that he had already lost all the points on his licence for previous offences, making it invalid. A judge in Madrid sentenced the 24-year-old to pay a fine of 25 euros per day for the next eight months. kca/phz
