Talks about his appointment finished late on Thursday, a source with knowledge of the discussions indicated, confirming news first reported in Le Parisien daily. The 59-year-old Girard, who was in line for the post with Borussia Moenchengladbach's Swiss coach Lucien Favre, takes over at Lille from Rudi Garcia, who has left for AS Roma.

SEOUL, June 13 (Yonhap) -- South Korean teenage footballer Jeong Chung-geun has signed with first-division French club Nantes FC, the player's agency said Thursday. The Seoul-based GSEN said Jeong has inked a three-year deal with Nantes in the Ligue 1 in France. The agency said the 18-year-old has been with Nante FC's youth club since September 2010 and his strong performances have earned him a spot on the big league squad.

Football: Benzema has knee surgery in France - Real

Real Madrid's French international Karim Benzema has undergone a surgical procedure in France to drain liquid from his right knee, the club said on its web site. Benzema was admitted on Monday afternoon to an orthopaedic clinic in Lyon, southeastern France, where a ganglion, or mass, on his right knee was treated. The 25-year-old striker had a "CAT-guided aspiration", the club said late Monday, a procedure in which surgeons use a CAT (computer axial tomography) scanner to guide them as they insert a needle and then drain liquid.

Football: Estrada to quit Montpellier for Emirates

Chilean international midfielder Marco Estrada is to sign for United Arab Emirates club Al Wahad from 2012 French champions Montpellier, a source close to the French team revealed on Monday. The 30-year-old - who has been at Montpellier since after the 2010 World Cup finals - will sign a two year contract for a fee of around 1.5million euros (US$2million) according to the source.
