Golf: Hend and Hwang share lead in Jakarta

Australia's Scott Hend and Hwang Inn-Choon of Korea lead the field after the opening round of the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters on Thursday after each shot a six-under-par 66. Reigning Open Championship winner Ernie Els of South Africa was also in the mix after returning with a 68 at the US$750,000 Asian Tour event at the Royale Jakarta Golf Club.

Golf: Ormsby, Arnond share lead at Ballantine's

Wade Ormsby of Australia and Arnond Vongvanij of Thailand shot to the top of the leaderboard in the rain-shortened second round at the Ballantine's Championship here on Friday. The two players were tied at seven-under 137 through two rounds at the par-72 Blackstone Golf Club. Ormsby shot a 67 on Friday while Arnond was round in 69 to share the club house lead. Ormsby earned his first Asian Tour victory earlier this month in India but he has yet to win on the European Tour. Arnond is also seeking his first European win.

Pistorius 'has no plans' to compete abroad

Murder-accused sprinter Oscar Pistorius does not plan to return to international athletics in the immediate future, his agent said Wednesday, after a snub from the organisers of a London meet. "Oscar has no plans to compete internationally at this point," said Peet van Zyl, dismissing suggestions Pistorius had planned to compete at the July 26-28 Anniversary Games, but was not invited.

Athletics: Bolt confirmed for Anniversary Games

Six-time Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt will compete at the Anniversary Games at London's Olympic Park in July, organisers confirmed on Wednesday. The Jamaican powered to gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay in London last year to replicate his extraordinary achievements at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. He is due to run in both the 100m and the 4x100m relay, in what will be the last major meet before the World Championships in Moscow.

Thatcher wasn't a racist: De Klerk

South Africa's last apartheid leader FW de Klerk rejected accusations that former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher was a racist Tuesday, on the eve of her funeral. The former leader who shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Nelson Mandela in 1993 said Thatcher did not give the "slightest support for apartheid or for racial discrimination of any kind." In life, and after her death last week, Thatcher was accused of racism because of her opposition to sanctions against the apartheid regime.

S.Africa police cell phones seized in Pistorius case

South African police have seized 49 mobile phones belonging to officers after they were used to photograph athlete Oscar Pistorius soon after his arrest for murder, the police ministry said Tuesday. The phones -- four official and 45 private handsets -- were confiscated nearly a week after the Paralympian sprinter's arrest for the Valentine's Day killing of his girlfriend. "These will form part of the evidence as part of possible South African police service internal disciplinary processes," police ministry spokesman Zweli Mnisi told AFP.

Athletics: Pistorius 'not welcome' at Anniversary Games

South African Paralympian Oscar Pistorius, who is accused of murdering his girlfriend, will not be welcome at the Anniversary Games at London's Olympic Park this year, organisers said on Tuesday. The three-day event to commemorate the first anniversary of the London Olympics will include a day of Paralympic sport, but UK Athletics chairman Ed Warner said Pistorius would not be invited to take part. "I don't want to see the Sunday of the Anniversary Games turning into a media circus," Warner told BBC radio. "It would over-shadow every other athlete that was there.

S.African murder-accused Pistorius seen out partying

South African Paralympian sprint star Oscar Pistorius was spotted partying last weekend at a trendy Johannesburg hangout, his first outing with friends since his arrest for the Valentine's Day killing of his girlfriend, media reported Sunday. According to a Sunday Times report, a "relaxed-looking" Pistorius was seen knocking back drinks at a party at an upmarket restaurant last Saturday, but did not stay long.
