Hospital to be opened by volunteer Turkish doctors in Ethiopia

A hospital is set to be established jointly by the Marmara Health Federation (MASFED) and Turkish charity Kimse Yok Mu (Is Anybody There) in the African country of Ethiopia, where the average life expectancy in only 40 years.The 40-bed hospital is expected to open on Aug. 1. A total of 50 medical health-care personnel from both Turkey and Ethiopia will serve the people in the Turkish hospital. Ten of doctors working in the hospital will be Turkish. Five of them will stay in Ethiopia permanently while the others will stay in the country for period of three to six months.

Gunmen kill Austrian rafter in Ethiopia

VIENNA, Jan 7 (Reuters) - An Austrian man was shot dead during an apparent robbery of his travel group that was rafting down the Blue Nile river in Ethiopia, the foreign ministry said on Monday. Three other Austrians accompanying him were unharmed in the incident that occurred on Sunday in remote country near Bahir Dar, about 570 km (350 miles) from the capital Addis Ababa. The gunmen attacked the men as they camped on the shore, a spokesman said. Ten Austrians in all were taking part in the tour.
