PepsiCo testing new fountain equipment following Coca-Cola's Freestyle

NEW YORK, N.Y. - PepsiCo says it plans to start testing new fountain equipment at restaurants that offers nearly 100 different flavour combinations. The test follows Coca-Cola's introduction in 2009 of its Freestyle machine, which also lets customers touch a screen to pick from a wide array of flavour combinations. PepsiCo's test, set to begin at five restaurants in Denver, was first reported by the industry tracker Beverage Digest.

J.C. Penney, AOL, Wendy's, WebMD are big market movers on Wednesday

Oat and soybean prices rise on the CBOT; beef prices fall

CHICAGO - Grains futures were mixed Wednesday on the Chicago Board of Trade. Wheat for July delivery fell 3 cents to $7.06 a bushel; July corn fell 7 cents to $6.33 a bushel; July oats added 1 cent to $3.7825 a bushel; while July soybeans rose 8.5 cents to $13.9075 a bushel. Beef futures fell, while pork prices rose on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. June live cattle fell 0.62 cent to $1.2020 a pound; May feeder cattle fell 1.27 cent to $1.3560 a pound; June lean hogs added 0.47 cent to 91.77 cents a pound.

Green Mountain ups outlook, expands Starbucks deal

Tim Hortons names new CEO; profit and stock drop

Shares of Tim Hortons, which boasts that it sells eight of every 10 cups of coffee sold in Canada, fell more than 2.5 percent after the company posted its first decline in established store sales since its 2006 initial public offering.

McDonald's cuts Angus burgers from menu after 4 years

The Oak Brook, Ill.-based chain had said earlier this year that it was evaluating whether to continue selling the Angus Third Pounders, which were introduced in 2009. Best restaurant in the US: Blue Hill in New York City

Chef Dan Barber’s New York City dining destination Blue Hill has been inducted into an exclusive club of restaurants deemed to be the best in the US at an event known as the Oscars of the American food scene. On Monday night, Barber took home the gastronomic equivalent of the Best Picture award at the James Beard Foundation Awards in New York, where Blue Hill was named Outstanding Restaurant.

The best chefs in the US: 'It's a tie!'

At an event known as the Oscars of the US food world, the culinary equivalent of the Best Actor award featured a rare tie result, with Momofuku chef David Chang and Blackbird chef Paul Kahan sharing the title this year. As the words "It’s a tie!" flashed across the big screen in New York’s Lincoln Center, a murmur of surprise swept across the audience, a group made up of the country’s culinary glitterati who swapped their chef’s coats and aprons for tuxedos and designer frocks.

Dutch order probe into baby milk sales to China

The Dutch government on Wednesday ordered an investigation into persistent shortages of certain brands of baby formula, blamed on networks of traffickers who ship milk powder to China where it is sold at premium prices. Deputy Economic Affairs Minister Sharon Dijksma ordered the Dutch Food and Consumer watchdog to probe a huge rise in demand for baby formula linked to so-called "baby milk runners", who bulk-buy powder in shops before sending it to China where it is resold to young parents fearful of local products.
