JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa's biggest union has called a one-day strike for Wednesday to highlight youth unemployment in the country, where one in four people are jobless, the union said. The strike would be the latest in a string of work stoppages in Africa's largest economy, weeks before a May 7 general election.

Zuma allies tapped to lead ANC electoral list

South Africa's ruling African National Congress on Tuesday unveiled its list of candidates for upcoming elections, with President Jacob Zuma loyalists dominating and some prominent critics taking a bow. The list of 200 parliamentary hopefuls -- which doubles as a tip sheet for who will feature in the next government -- was released ahead of the May 7 general election. The vote promises to be the toughest electoral challenge yet for a party that has won each election since the end of apartheid in 1994 by a landslide.
