Tennis: Nadal advances to Miami semis

Top seed Rafael Nadal advanced to the semi-finals of the ATP Tour's Miami Masters tournament Thursday by rallying to beat Canadian Milos Raonic 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Spain's Nadal, who has lost three times in the Miami final, clinched the victory on the first match point in the third set when Raonic failed to reach a spinning serve out wide. Nadal advances to the semis, where he will face seventh seeded Tomas Berdych, who cooled off the red-hot Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (7/3), earlier in the day.

Nishikori stuns Federer to reach Miami semis

By Steve Keating MIAMI (Reuters) - A tireless Kei Nishikori shocked 17-time grand slam winner Roger Federer 3-6 7-5 6-4 on Wednesday to claim his second top five scalp in two days and reach the semi-finals of the Sony Open. After knocking off fourth seeded Spaniard David Ferrer in a three-hour marathon on Tuesday, the 21st ranked Japanese was forced to go the distance again, surviving a two-hour center court battle with Federer.

Novak Djokovic eliminated defending champ Andy Murray in straight sets and while fifth seed Roger Federer was sent crashing out of the ATP Tour's Miami Masters tournament in the quarter-finals on Wednesday. Federer lost 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 to Japanese 20th seed Kei Nishikori who booked a semi-final showdown with former world number one Djokovic who defeated Murray 7-5, 6-3 on the hardcourts at Crandon Park.

World number two Novak Djokovic defeated Andy Murray 7-5, 6-3 on Wednesday to book his semi-final berth at the Miami ATP Masters. Djokovic recovered an early break in the second set to notch the victory in one hour and 29 minutes. It was the first meeting between the two since Murray defeated the Serbian in the Wimbledon final to become the first Briton since Fred Perry in 1936 to win the All England Club's men's singles title.

Nadal brushes off bomb scare to cruise through in Miami

By Steve Keating MIAMI (Reuters) - Unruffled by a bomb scare that locked down the Sony Open late on Tuesday, world number one Rafa Nadal brushed past Italy's Fabio Fognini 6-2 6-2 to join Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray in the last eight. Officials announced a suspicious package had been left near the main entrance to the sprawling tennis facility which was quickly locked down, keeping thousands of spectators from entering or leaving while Miami Dade police investigated.

Murray, playing his first event since splitting with coach Ivan Lendl last week, has looked increasingly comfortable and confident on his own, disposing of the 11th-seeded Frenchman 6-4 6-1 in a tidy 73 minutes.
