Football: Rain kings Barca stay on course for 100 points

Barcelona celebrated lifting the La Liga trophy for a 22nd time with a 2-1 win over Valladolid on Sunday at a rain-lashed Camp Nou. The wet conditions resulted in the lowest attendance for a Barca home league match this season as only 56,055 filled the 99,354 capacity ground. However, first-half goals from Pedro Rodriguez and into his own net from Marc Valiente were enough to keep the champions on track to match Real Madrid's league record of 100 points before Victor Perez's penalty halved the deficit a minute from time.

Six decades on, the kingdom of Pele still hurts from missing out to Uruguay in Rio de Janeiro's Maracana stadium for the 1950 World Cup title -- an entire generation of players will suffer similar heartache if they fail to lift the Jules Rimet trophy next year.

The point kept Milan in third place and on course for a Champions League spot. But red cards for Milan's Ghanaian Sulley Muntari and Roma skipper Francesco Totti, as well as more racist controversy, over-shadowed action on the pitch. Muntari was sent-off for manhandling the referee as the official reached into his pocket to book Mario Balotelli.
