Football:Drogba suffers new Ivory Coast World Cup snub

Veteran striker Didier Drogba was again left out of the Ivory Coast squad when coach Sabri Lamouchi unveiled his 26 players for next month's World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Tanzania. The 35-year-old Drogba led his country at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa this year but the team exited at the quarter-finals stage. As a result, the former Chelsea star was axed from the squad for March's World Cup qualifier against Gambia. Despite Drogba's 96 caps and 60 international goals, Lamouchi has resisted the urge to recall the Galatasaray veteran.

Football: Drogba hits out at racist fans

Galatasaray striker Didier Drogba has hit out at racist Fenerbahce fans who bombarded him and fellow Ivorian Emmanuel Eboue with monkey chants during the two sides meeting last weekend. The former Chelsea star posted a message on the Turkish champions' Facebook page and also published a photograph depicting Charles Darwin's theory of evolution on the social media site Instagram. "You call me a monkey but you cried when Chelsea beat Fenerbahce in 2008, you called me monkey but you jumped in front of your screen when I won the Champions League," Drogba wrote.

Football: Manchester City to tour South Africa

Top English Premier League club Manchester City will play two pre-season friendlies in South Africa during July, it was announced Wednesday at a media conference. Opponents and venues for the July 14 and 18 fixtures have to be confirmed, although one is set for Durban and the second game will be linked to the 95th birthday of revered statesman Nelson Mandela.

Anzhi keep alive hopes of first title with win at Volga

Stade Rennes complete Makoun transfer from Aston Villa

(Reuters) - Stade Rennes have completed the permanent transfer of Cameroon midfielder Jean Makoun, who has been on loan from English side Aston Villa since August, the Ligue 1 club said on Sunday. Makoun, 29, joined Aston Villa in 2011 but failed to make an impact and already spent last season on loan at Greek side Olympiakos Piraeus. He has signed for the next two seasons with Rennes. "Rennes have taken up the option to buy Jean Makoun," the club said on their website (www.staderennais.com).

Late drama in Nigeria, Eto'o double for Cameroon

Samuel Eto'o scored twice to lead Cameroon to a 2-1 victory in Yaounde against Togo who were without Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor.
