New York, Sep 5 (EFE).- Spain's Rafael Nadal put on a dominating performance in the U.S. Open quarterfinals, steamrolling countryman Tommy Robredo 6-0, 6-2, 6-2 under the lights on Arthur Ashe Stadium to advance to the tournament's final four for the fifth time. The world No. 2 excelled Wednesday night in all facets of the game - serve, ground strokes and net play - to outclass Robredo, who had stunned five-time champion Roger Federer in Monday's fourth-round action.

New York, Sep 2 (EFE).- Spain's Marcel Granollers advanced to the round of 16 at the U.S. Open, while countrywoman Carla Suarez Navarro made it into the quarterfinals in New York for the first time. Granollers beat American Tim Smyczek 6-4, 4-6, 0-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the third round on Sunday. Suarez Navarro, the No. 18 seed, became the first Spanish woman to make the quarters at the U.S. Open since 1998, when Arantxa Sanchez Vicario pulled off the feat, by upsetting Germany's Angelique Kerber, the No. 8 seed, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).

Tennis: Robredo ends two-year title wait in Casablanca

Spain's Tommy Robredo ended a two-year trophy drought on Sunday when he captured his 10th claycourt title by beating South Africa's Kevin Anderson 7-6 (8/6), 4-6, 6-3 in the final of the Grand Prix Hassan II. The 30-year-old, whose last title came on clay at Santiago in February 2011, will see his ranking return to the top 50 on Monday. Robredo, a former world number five, missed five months of the season in 2012 with a leg injury and saw his ranking crash to 471. "I'm very happy to win a title again after my injury," he said.

Spain's Ferrer wins second straight title in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, Feb 25 (EFE).- Spain's David Ferrer defeated Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in the final of the Copa Claro tournament to win his second straight title in Buenos Aires. The 30-year-old Ferrer became the first player in 35 years to repeat at the ATP 250 event in Argentina's capital, matching the feat of Argentine legend Guillermo Vilas. "I don't think about breaking records, just about improving day after day, and I will surely value what I won more when I retire from tennis," Ferrer said.
