Japan's forex reserves up for 1st time in 3 months in Jan.

Japan's foreign exchange reserves rose $10.24 billion from a month earlier to $1,277.06 billion at the end of January, up for the first time in three months, the Finance Ministry said Friday. The value of Japanese government-held U.S. Treasuries increased amid growing concern that instability in emerging currency markets may weigh on global financial markets, which pushed up the reserves last month, a ministry official said. A climb in gold prices across the globe also helped the reserves gain in January, the official added.
