A Pakistani prisoner who was savagely beaten in an Indian jail in an apparent tit-for-tat assault died on Thursday, prompting Islamabad to demand an international probe into the "heinous" crime. Doctors treating Sanaullah Ranjay at a government hospital in Chandigarh said the 52-year-old died of multiple organ failure after suffering severe head injuries in last week's attack at a prison in the northern city of Jammu.

India PM says border dispute with China 'can be solved'

Militants kill four Indian police in Kashmir ambush

Kashmiri militants killed four Indian police Friday in an ambush on a patrol near the town of Sopore in Indian-administered Kashmir, a senior officer said. The four had just descended from their vehicle to conduct a routine patrol in the village of Hygam when they came under attack from gunmen, Superintendent Imtiyaz Hussain told AFP. "Four of our policemen got killed in the ambush by militants," he said. A hunt for the attackers was now under way, the officer added.

Suspected militants kill political worker in Indian-controlled Kashmir

Suspected militants killed a political worker and rural body head (Sarpanch) of pro-Indian party -- National Conference -- in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said Tuesday. The killing took place Monday night at village Kulpora- Liddermudh in district Pulwama, around 53 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir. "A Sarpanch Ghulman Mohammed Lone was shot dead by suspected militants in the premises of his residential house last night," said a senior police official posted in Pulwama.

Dutch man confesses to killing British woman

A Dutch man has confessed to stabbing to death a young British woman holidaying in Indian Kashmir while under the influence of drugs, police said on Sunday. Richard De-Wit, 43, told police that he had murdered Sarah Groves, who had been staying on the "New Beauty" houseboat at Dal Lake in the Indian Kashmir city of Srinagar for two months. "He has confessed that he committed the murder under the influence of some drug. We have sent his blood sample for testing to ascertain the facts," deputy inspector general of police Afadul Mujtaba told AFP.

British woman stabbed to death on Kashmir houseboat

A young British woman holidaying in Indian Kashmir was found dead in a pool of blood on a houseboat Saturday, police said after arresting a Dutch man on suspicion of her murder. The 43-year-old Dutch national was taken into custody as he tried to flee the scenic Kashmir valley in the foothills of the Himalayas, police superintendent Tahir Sajjad told AFP.
