Football: Key win for title-chasing Kaizer Chiefs

Bernard Parker scored twice as Kaizer Chiefs triumphed 3-1 at Moroka Swallows Saturday to take a six-point lead in the South African Premiership with four rounds left. While Chiefs came from behind to win the Soweto derby, closest challengers Platinum Stars slipped up when held 1-1 at home by bottom-of-the-table Chippa United. Defending champions Orlando Pirates are playing in the CAF Champions League this weekend, but will also trail arch-rivals Chiefs by six points if they win the game in hand.

Bulls dominate early to give Southern Kings reality check

PORT ELIZABETH (Reuters) - A dominant first-half performance propelled the Bulls to a 34-0 victory away to fellow South Africans the Southern Kings that lifted them into the top three in the Super Rugby standings on Saturday. A bonus point allowed the injury-plagued Bulls to go top of the South African conference as the Pretoria-based franchise scored a fifth win in eight matches.

RugbyU: Bulls batter Kings into submission

A couple of late tries gave Northern Bulls a bonus-point 34-0 victory over Southern Kings on Saturday in a lively all-South Africa Super 15 clash. The extra point was secured when Akona Ndungane dotted down after the hooter and lifted the Pretoria side eight places to third on the southern hemisphere championship standings and top place in the South African conference. Bulls showed why they have been Super Rugby champions three times with a whirlwind start at a packed Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in which they built a 17-point lead.

RugbyU: Late Le Roux try seals Cheetahs win

A late Willie le Roux try sealed a 12-6 victory for Central Cheetahs over Coastal Sharks Saturday in an error-ridden Super 15 match clash of South African sides. Right wing Le Roux intercepted a pass from flank Pieter-Steph du Toit and could afford the luxury of looking over his shoulder as he sprinted to the line two minutes from time. Sharks retaliated with a break by centre Paul Jordaan that took play close to the Cheetahs tryline, but the home team were penalised while trying to score a pushover try and the referee blew for full-time.

Football: Ngele brace takes Platinum closer to Chiefs

Unfashionable Platinum Stars reduced the gap between themselves and South African Premiership leaders Kaizer Chiefs to four points Wednesday with a 2-1 win at mid-table Wits University. The surprise side from north-west minining town Rustenburg fell behind midway through the opening half at Milpark Stadium in Johannesburg only for little known Mogakolodi Ngele to become the two-goal star. He equalised on the stroke of half-time in crisp, dry late autumn conditions and converted a penalty just before the hour mark to secure maximum points for the visitors.

Football: Dramatic win for lowly Black Leopards

A Rodney Ramagalela stoppage-time goal earned Black Leopards a crucial 2-1 home win over Ajax Cape Town Tuesday in a South African Premiership relegation battle. Ajax failed to clear a corner at the Peter Mokaba stadium in northern city Polokwane and Ramagalela poked the ball past former Liverpool goalkeeper Sander Westerveld. The Cape Town club took the lead on 19 minutes with a wonderful goal as Abia Nale squeezed the ball past Ugandan goalkeeper Postnett Omony from the tightest of angles.

Football: Ng'ambi takes Platinum Stars into semis

Malawi midfielder Robert Ng'ambi snatched a late winner as Platinum Stars fought back to win 2-1 at Mamelodi Sundowns Sunday in a South African FA Cup quarter-final. Platinum from north-west mining town Rustenburg join fellow Premiership clubs Kaizer Chiefs and title-holders SuperSport United and second-tier United FC in the semi-finals draw Monday. Ng'ambi put aside dreams of going to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with his country to tap the ball into the net from close range and settle a cup tie that came alive in the latter stages after an hour of overly cagey football.

Football: Isaacs own goal takes old club Chiefs through

Kaizer Chiefs reached the South African FA Cup semi-finals Saturday through a 1-0 win at Bloemfontein Celtic with former defender Dominic Isaacs scoring an own goal. Midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala floated an inswinging corner toward the six-yard box and a glancing Isaacs header flew into his net past startled Cameroonian goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb.
