Tennis: Pakistan star player to fight Davis Cup case

Pakistan tennis star Aisam-ul Haq Qureshi Wednesday said he would fight Pakistan's case after a referee's decision to award a Davis Cup tie to New Zealand because of an unplayable court surface at a neutral venue. Qureshi, 33, the country's first player to reach a Grand Slam doubles final, was part of the squad that faced New Zealand in an Asia Oceania group II tie, which was shifted to Myanmar over security fears in Pakistan.

Aisam winning spree shuts critics mouth

Pakistan tennis ace Aisamul Haq Qureshi, with his clinical performances, shut the mouths of his critics who were describing him as veteran and already written him off. First, Aisam helped Pakistan winning the important Asia-Oceania Davis Cup tie against Sri Lanka, and that too by winning the do-or-die fifth and final singles match.

Tennis: S. Korea thrash new-look India 4-1

South Korea took both the reverse singles to complete a 4-1 victory over depleted India in the Asia-Oceania group one first round Davis Cup tie in New Delhi on Sunday. Jeong Suk-Young gave the Koreans an unbeatable 3-1 lead by outplaying Virali-Murugesan Ranjeet 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in the day's first match. Nam Ji-Sung beat Vijayant Malik, the other Indian debutant, 6-2, 6-4 in the inconsequential fifth rubber that was reduced to best-of-three sets.

Tennis-Negotiations stall, India face Davis Cup crisis

By Sudipto Ganguly MUMBAI, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Indian tennis faces a second major embarrassment in six months after negotiations between the association and disgruntled Davis Cup players failed ahead of their home tie against South Korea next month. Eight top players, excluding Leander Paes, submitted a list of requirements to the All India Tennis Association (AITA) with a veiled threat to snub the regional first round tie in New Delhi from Feb. 1-3 if no action was taken.
