Football: I can only play for Barca, says Messi

Argentine football star Lionel Messi said Monday he could not play for any team other than Barcelona, where he has been since the age of 13. "I cannot play with any team other than Barcelona," he told reporters in Qatar, where he took part in a charity event. But he added in answering a question about a possible transfer that he "did not know what the future hides." Messi joined Barcelona when he was still just 13 and climbed through the Catalans' ranks, making his first team debut at just 17.

Epic will undertake to finance and produce the film.

Football: Supersub Messi edges Barcelona closer to title

Lionel Messi came off the bench to move Barcelona to within two points of clinching the La Liga title with a 4-2 win over Real Betis at Camp Nou on Sunday. Dorlan Pabon and Ruben Perez had twice given the visitors the lead in the first-half either side of Alexis Sanchez's equaliser. However, after David Villa had once again levelled the scores, it was unsurprisingly left to Messi to decide matters as within three minutes of coming on he fired in a wonderful free-kick and then was on hand to tap home at the end of a flowing move involving Sanchez and Andres Iniesta.

Football: Messi fit to face Bayern

World Player of the Year Lionel Messi has been passed fit to take his place in the Barcelona side that faces Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening, the club has confirmed. "Leo Messi has received on Tuesday the medical all-clear and will be able to play against Bayern Munich in the first-leg of the Champions League semi-finals," said a statement on the club's website. "The Argentine player has the green light from the doctors to play in the huge match against the German side."

Football: Messi 'fit to play' - Zubizarreta

Barcelona's Lionel Messi, who is struggling to overcome a hamstring injury, is fit to play in the club's Champions League semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich, the Spanish club's sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta said on Monday. "Messi is with the team and is fit to play, although it is ultimately up to the coaching staff to decide," the former Spain goalkeeper told reporters before Barcelona headed to Germany for Tuesday's match. "We're not going to give up on fielding the best possible side on the pitch," he added.

Messi returns to help Barca reach semifinals

Lionel Messi came off the bench to help Barcelona rally for a 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday and reach the Champions League semifinals for a sixth year in a row. Barcelona advanced on the away goals rule after its 2-2 draw in Paris last week meant the contest finished 3-3 on aggregate. Messi, who had injured his hamstring a week earlier, was only cleared to play an hour before kickoff.

Football: Messi dependence a worrying trend for Barca

Lionel Messi once again rode to Barcelona's rescue as they squeezed past Paris Saint-Germain on away goals to qualify for an unprecedented sixth consecutive Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night. However, having been outplayed by the visitors for the first hour, their dependence on Messi was exposed as despite struggling with a hamstring injury that forced him to start the match on the bench, the four-time World Player of the Year was called upon for the final half hour with his side trailing to Javier Pastore's goal on the night and 3-2 on aggregate.

Football: Barcelona survive scare to reach semi-finals

Barcelona survived a huge scare from Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday to qualify for the Champions League semi-finals for the sixth successive season on away goals after a 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou. The 2-2 draw between the pair in last week's quarter-final first leg had handed the advantage to the Catalans, but with star player Lionel Messi only starting the return as a substitute due to a hamstring injury, they seemed nervous throughout and PSG deservedly went in front just after half-time through Javier Pastore.

Relief for Messi-dependent Barca after PSG fright

By Iain Rogers BARCELONA (Reuters) - Andres Iniesta admitted this week that Barcelona suffer from "Messi-dependence" and his view was painfully highlighted as the favourites laboured in the Champions League quarter-final clash against Paris St Germain on Wednesday. Messi started on the bench at the Nou Camp after straining a hamstring in last week's 2-2 first leg draw in Paris and for the hour before his introduction, Barca produced a flat performance despite the best efforts of the home fans to rouse the players.

Messi still a question mark for showdown with PSG

Barcelona, Apr 8 (EFE).- Striker Lionel Messi worked out Monday at FC Barcelona's practice facility, but the club remained mum on whether the Argentine phenom will be a starter or a substitute for this week's Champions League quarterfinal with Paris Saint-Germain. To the dismay of Barça fans, it is also possible Messi will not recover from the pulled hamstring he suffered in last week's first leg with PSG in time for Wednesday's decisive contest here at Camp Nou.
