8 militants killed in Orakzai Agency attack

Security forces on Wednesday killed at least eight suspected militants in exchange of firing in Orakzai Agency. According to security forces, some unidentified armed militants attacked security forces check post in Dabori area of Orakzai Agency and injured two personnel. In retaliatory fire eight suspected militants were killed. The exchange of firing between militants and the forces continued for sometime.

Syria says UN should class Nusra as Qaeda-linked

The regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Thursday called on the UN Security Council to class the jihadist Al-Nusra Front as an Al-Qaeda-linked group, state news agency SANA said. In a letter to the United Nations, the Syrian foreign ministry said it "expects the Security Council to fulfil its role and preserve global security," the agency added. "Syria has asked the UN Security Council to include Al-Nusra Front on its list of organisations linked to Al-Qaeda," said a statement referring to UN resolution 1267/1989 that set up the UN Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee.

Al-Nusra commits to Al-Qaeda, cool on Iraq branch 'merger'

The head of Syria's jihadist Al-Nusra Front on Wednesday pledged allegiance to Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri in an audio message, but distanced his group from claims it had merged with Al-Qaeda in Iraq. "The sons of Al-Nusra Front pledge allegiance to Sheikh Ayman al-Zawahiri," Abu Mohammed al-Jawlani said in the recording. But, he added, "we were not consulted" on an announcement by Al-Qaeda in Iraq chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi on Tuesday of a merger with Al-Nusra Front.

13 Soldiers, scores of insurgents die in Pakistan fighting

Islamabad, Apr 9 (EFE).- At least 13 soldiers and scores of insurgents have died in combat since last weekend at a remote valley in northwestern Pakistan, a military official told Efe on Tuesday. The official, who preferred to remain anonymous, said the fighting occurred in the strategic Tirah Valley between the tribal areas of Khuber and Kurram.

Qaeda chief urges Syria rebels to seek Islamic state

Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri has urged Syrian rebels to fight to establish an Islamic state in the war-torn country, in an audio message posted online on Sunday. "Let your fight be in the name of Allah and with the aim of establishing Allah's sharia (law) as the ruling system," he said in his first message on the Internet since November last year. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime dismisses the rebels as "terror" groups and Al-Qaeda Islamists. Fears of extremist Islamism playing a growing role in the conflict have contributed to curbing efforts to arm the rebels.

Forces kill 12 militants in Orakzai Agency

At least twelve militants have been killed during operation by the security forces in Mamoonzai area of Orakzai Agency on Friday.According to media reports, the militants have been killed in shelling by jet fighters of security forces in Mamoonzai area.Three militants’ hideouts have also been destroyed in the shelling.

Four Pakistani soldiers die in clashes with militants

At least four Pakistani soldiers were killed on Friday during an operation against militants in the troubled tribal belt on the Afghan border, officials said. The fighting took place in the Tirah valley of Khyber district, where the military has been bombarding Taliban and other militants who pose a fresh threat to the nearby northwestern city of Peshawar, a key battleground in upcoming elections.

6 Insurgents killed in attack on Pakistan border post

Islamabad, Apr 4 (EFE).- Six insurgents died in an attack Thursday on a border post of Pakistan's security forces in the northwestern tribal region of Kurram, which borders on Afghanistan, a Pakistani official told Efe. The incident took place at dawn in the Bhittai zone when a group of insurgents tried to attack a post manned by members of the Frontier Corps, wounding three of them. The guards returned the enemy fire and managed to kill six of the attackers, according to a member of the local Kurram administration, Mazir Hussain.

Pakistan expels suspected French jihadists

Pakistan has deported three Frenchmen who have been held in secret since they entered the country illegally 10 months ago to fight NATO troops in neighbouring Afghanistan, officials said Thursday. Investigators are expected to question the men in France, where the case is likely to draw parallels with Mohammed Merah, the 23-year-old who shot dead seven people in southwest France in March 2012 after returning from Pakistan. Investigators said Pakistani police arrested the trio on May 28 last year after they entered the country illegally from Iran.
